Unpublished Mountain Express Letter to the Editor

Attached is our letter to the editor sent to the Idaho Mountain Express that wasn't published.

Dear Editor:

We agree with the points made about Mr. Ribi in the letter we received recently from Sun Valley Citizens for Better Government. The latter specifically criticized Mr. Ribi for his penchant for spreading the taxpayer money to non-profits, his support for the onerous garbage ordinance, and for his support for the work force housing ordinance.

Our personal encounter with Mr. Ribi involved the work force housing ordinance. When we applied for the building permit for our small 120 sq. ft. addition we were socked with a ridiculous work force hosing fee of about $2,000. As Mr. Ribi was our neighborhood councilman we asked for his help, which was not forthcoming. We hadn’t realized that he had been an avid supporter of the ordinance. It was most gratifying when the courts threw out the ordinance, although the process cost the City thousands of dollars in legal fees. Furthermore he was the only Councilman to move to appeal this decision, a move that would have cost the City even more on this flawed enterprise.

Mr. Ribi seems all to ready to be overly generous with our tax money, and far too inclined to use the coercive weight of government to force its citizens to conform to his ideas of how we should live.

We hope our neighbors will not be swayed by the many white campaign signs spread throughout Elkhorn and Sun Valley lawns, but will rather judge him on the basis of his voting record..

Shortly after the Mabbatt letter was posted the Mabbatts received a call from Nils Ribi, He attempted to convince the Mabbatts that the motion to appeal the court decision on the workforce housing ordinance was the workings of another, long since departed, council person. This is typically Ribi. Rather than honestly addressing his voting record as chronicled in the Sun Valley Citizens letter, for which I acknowledge responsibility, Ribi has reverted to demagoguery, name calling, and obfuscation. He attempts to pass off the documentation of his record in the Citizens letter as "too ridiculous to address". Ribi should be proud of his record and defend it. Many citizens likely would agree with his positions. The voting record attributed to Ribi in the citizens letter as well as in the Mabbatt letter are fully documented in Sun Valley City Council minutes and are also confirmed by statements made in the advertisement placed herein by Linda Thorson and Theresa Comber, former campaign managers for Mr. Ribi. Readers of this should also read that paid advertisement by two people who are certainly in a position to know the facts. Ribi maintains his personal blog which he uses for self-promotion and which he promises is a free and open forum, just like this. My experience has been on the two occasions I have attempted to post on his blog is that any comments critical of MR. Ribi are not posted. A public official of any stature accepts criticism as well as praise.
