Fairfield’s Airport Sponsorship Letter to FAA - Submitted by Mayor David Hanks & Fairfield City Council

March 24, 2008

Wednesday, March 19, 2008 I attended a Fairfield City Council meeting to learn what action the city was going to take in response to the FAA’s request asking for either a “Airport Sponsorship Application” or a “Adopted Resolution” stating formally; no interest in a new airport.

During the meeting Mayor David Hanks presented a letter he had drafted for the city council’s review. There was some discussion amongst the council members about the status of commitments the Mayor had received from various private individuals, but it was not disclosed which members of the public the Mayor has been in negotiations with. By reviewing various City City Council minutes, it appears these negotiations have all been outside the normal public meeting process.

The member’s then voted, and approved the letter to be sent to the FAA as written.

Basic Contents:

  • Fairfield is very interested in pursuing possible sponsorship of the proposed new airport
  • They are working towards a commitment and to demonstrating to the FAA the City’s financial capability to build, own, and operate the airport
  • They have already had preliminary discussions with members of the community
  • There is substantial interest sponsorship of an airport
  • They have significant, private financial support to add to the City’s application
  • Studies indicate an airport in proximity to Camas County is a very viable solution
  • They look forward to continued help and support from the FAA as the city continues to pursue airport sponsorship

Attached is a link to a “Certified Copy” of a public disclosure request I made, along with a copy of the letter in draft form. It was voted on and approved to be sent as written in draft form by the Fairfield City Council. CLICK HERE to download copy of letter PDF

I also received a copy of the “Assurances” - Airport Sponsorship document presented by the FAA which spells out the guidelines required to become a sponsor, qualification guidelines, liabilities, etc.. CLICK HERE to download a copy of this document PDF Document

I hope you find this information of value as it affects our immediate area and future growth patterns, services, etc.

Feel free to use this information and the “Public Disclosure Documents” anyway you choose.
